New year, new juicer

We treated ourselves to a juicer to ring in 2013 – a snazzy little Black & Decker juicer for only $40. We’ve been adding kale/spinach/greens to our smoothies for a while now, but felt like it was time to kick things up a notch and incorporate some juices in to our diet. Things are gettin cray in here. We’ve been playing around with different combinations of veggies and fruit, trying to substitute the 3 p.m. raid of the office goldfish/chex mix/chocolate stash with a boost of nutrients instead. So far so good. Here’s a round up of our favs so far.

Green juice
2 leafs kale
1/2 cucumber
2 stalks celery
1/2 green apple
(Kale, spinach and lettuce don’t yield much juice, but the rest of the ingredients do)

Pineapple mint
1 cup pineapple cubes
2 mint leaves
1 cup water
(Super refreshing)

Beet orange
1 beet
1 orange
1 inch ginger chunk
(The beets temporarily stain your fingers and cutting board, but yield a lot of rich, purple juice.)

Carrot orange ginger
2 large carrots
1 orange
1 inch ginger chunk
(You’ll feel healthy just looking at it)
